Background on satellite radio
Satellite radio is a service whereby radio signals (music, talk shows, sporting events, etc.) are broadcast from satellites to special receivers in your home or car or to handheld satellite radio receivers.
Satellite radio technology uses the same type of digital technology that is used in satellite TV service, but because the signal bandwidth requirements are so much smaller, the service is portable and mobile (you can't easily have satellite TV installed in a car).
Because the service is digital and broadcast over the entire nation, satellite radio does not have the same static and fading that traditional radio has. You can take a drive across the entire country and never lose the satellite radio signal (unless you are amidst tall buildings, in tunnels or certain mountain valleys).
